Skywatch Friday - digging into the archives...

Well, it was a pretty slow week for sunsets. I looked back into some older, wintry folders, and came across this, from December 2008. I like it!

Nice, right? Nothing beats winter for lovely clouds and sunsets. But... I don't mind summer staying around a little longer, even so :)

Retro Windows!

As you may recall, I was in one of Jerusalem's crummier neighborhoods a couple of days ago. I took the opportunity to grab a few shots of some windows and doors that I found intriguing! Here is one of them:

Interesting, right? This is all Israeli-60's-70's, and it kind of cracks me up. On the one hand, I like it a lot, and my other hand just can't decide. Walking by these things is really like walking into a time machine!

Mangled

Waiting for my car to be examined in a less-than-classy neighborhood of Jerusalem yesterday, I found myself faced with this strange image. I decided to take a break from my search for interesting windows and/or doors, and stop to grab a shot. Wait a second - look at that! It's got a bit of red in it! Photo, I hereby dub thee Ruby Tuesday:

Lollipop, lollipop

Here is my latest submission to that ongoing series: "Shadows from my Balcony."
Don't these look almost good enough to lick? I always enjoy shadows in which it's hard to determine where the object ends and the shadow begins... :)

Happy Anniversary - to me!

Well, kind of. I realized a few days ago that I actually forgot to acknowledge that as of July 4th, I've been blogging here at I Wish I Were A Photographer for exactly one year! (Here's my opening post, for those of you who are interested.) However, although I forgot to celebrate that one, July 23rd marks my first ever Skywatch entry! I think that's a bit monumental too, don't you?

Anyway, in keeping with the custom, here's my Skywatch Friday entry for today. I'm pretty sure it's my 47th!!

Looking back on this year, I'm definitely glad that I started this blog. It really has convinced me that yes, I truly do wish I were a photographer! One day... when I can afford to quit my day job - maybe. In the meanwhile, I very much enjoy finding three minutes here or there to look around for interesting shadows, or doors, or red things, or anything I'd like to share with you all. Thanks so much for riding along with me! And a big thanks to my family, for putting up with me! (Yes, we'll keep driving in a minute, I just want to try to take a picture of that. No, please don't taste that yet, I need to get my camera...)

Do go and check out more sky-oriented photography right now, at this week's Skywatch Friday. Happy Skywatching to us all - have a great weekend, everyone!

Shadowy Trees

Here's another fun shadow shot for that great meme, Shadow Shot Sunday. I found it yesterday, and my kids were kind enough to not complain when I stopped the car to get out and take this:
Nice, right? I hesitate to say it, but I think the shadow is more attractive than the actual tree :) As always, feel free to click on the photo, if you'd like a closer view.

Jerusalem Skywatch

We were out with good friends a couple of nights ago in Jerusalem. Walking around the Rose Gardens just before sunset, we found ourselves faced with this beautiful sky. Good friends, a good view - who could ask for anything more?

Nice, right? Feel free to click on the photo, if you'd like a closer view.
And go to Skywatch Friday, to check out more sky-oriented photography. Have a great weekend, everyone!

More ruby geraniums

What's that line from the Wizard of Oz about not looking further than your own backyard? When I'm hard pressed for reddish photography to show off for Ruby Tuesday, Mary's great meme, I look to the flowering entry to my apartment building. Here's what was waiting there today:

I didn't used to be a big fan of geraniums, to tell the truth. But these flowers are some of the happiest I've ever seen - it's hard not to be drawn to them! Feel free to click on either photo, if you'd like to get a better view.

Go right now to see more rubies, at Ruby Tuesday, hosted by Mary at Work of the Poet. Happy Tuesday, everyone!

Macro Shadows - A Carrot Top!

So there I was, cutting up some carrots on Friday for a soufflé. All of a sudden I found myself faced with this doozy, and I couldn't resist going for my camera. Isn't it interesting? As always, feel free to click on either photo to get a closer look:

Generally, carrot tops and cucumber ends now go straight to our sweet rabbit. I wasn't sure if this sprouting action was good for him (yes, turns out he's a boy!) or not, though, so I had to throw it away after taking these. Anyone know out there?

I figured this qualifies for two fun memes - what luck! I'm submitting it to Shadow Shot Sunday, hosted at Hey Harriet, and Macro Monday, over at Lisa's Chaos. Go to both to check out lots of interesting photography! And have a great week, all of you!

Heavenly Skywatch

Here's a quick shot that I got a few weeks ago, when the moon and Venus were lining up nicely:

The sun had just set, and this seemed very dramatic! Feel free to click on it, if you'd like to get a better view!

A Window At Last!

It's been a long time since I participated in Mary's Window Views... and Doors, Too! meme. Fortunately, I found this set of interesting windows last week, and now I can join back up!
I really like these! Feel free to click on the photo, if you'd like a closer view.

And go right now to Window Views... and Doors, Too! to check out more architectural photography. Have a great Wednesday!

Summer Stock #2!

Here's another photo that I took with Robin's meme, Summer Stock Sunday in mind! Come on, does anything really say summer better than this?
Yummm. Looks good, right? But even more importantly, I took a bite moments after taking these, and can absolutely vouch for the sweetness of this watermelon!

Go check out more summery photography at Summer Stock Sunday, at Robin's great blog, Around the Island. Happy Summer, everyone! And have a great week!

Another week gone by: Skywatch

Here's a nice shot I got on a company picnic a couple weeks ago. After lunch, we were sitting around, when I looked up and found this lovely tree, framed nicely by a blue, blue sky:
