Pink rubies at the Jerusalem Light Festival

Last week we went to the Jerusalem Light Festival. It was a lot of fun! I have a few photos that I'm saving, but for now, here are the flowery things that were placed along the outer walls of the Old City. Pretty cool, don't you think?
I'm sticking with my theory that pink items are close enough to red to qualify for Mary's wonderful meme, Ruby Tuesday. Why don't you go there right now, to check out more ruby red photography? That's where I'm going!
Happy Tuesday, everyone!

Long time no see - two great memes!

It's just been too long since I participated in these memes. Today's Flowers is always fun, and generally easy. Mellow Yellow Monday is a bit trickier. But lo and behold: here are some mellow yellow flowers that I found in the parking lot of my office. I've never seen this pretty white plant bloom before, and I certainly didn't expect this! So pretty!

Nice, right? Feel free to click on these, if you'd like a closer view. And by the way, the second one makes a great background for your computer screen - help yourselves!
For more flowery photography, check out Today's Flowers. And for more yellowish photography, go to Mellow Yellow Monday. Have a great week, everyone!

Skywatch - Crisp Clouds

Here we go with more clouds! These were shot from my balcony, just a few hours ago:

I'm so enchanted by these! I've said it before - I'm so grateful to have a camera and not a paintbrush. Who could think this stuff up?

Feel free to click on any of the photos them, to enlarge them and get a better view. And for more cool sky-oriented photography, go to this week's edition of Skywatch Friday. Have a great weekend, everyone!

A ruby smile

We bought our first watermelon of the summer last week. It made it almost all the way to the checkout before falling on the floor - oh no! But the fall created such a sweet smiley face, I couldn't resist taking a photo. And even though it was pre-opened, it was really quite delicious :)

Summer Stock - Green Grapes!

Well, the fact is, my kids are still in school, and so aside from the ridiculous heat, it's not really summer for us yet. I have no photos of beaches or pools, or even bathing suits. But luckily, the grocery store doesn't need to wait for vacation to begin to get that summery feeling. I found these today - delicious!
It seemed a shame to leave them locked up like that, so I let them take a peek at the free life.
Yum!

Happy almost Summer, everyone!

Skywatch Friday - some pretty clouds

You all know me by now - I'm just a big sucker for clouds. And so, when looking up last week at a red light (I seem to use my camera more and more at red lights) I found this, and grabbed my trusty Canon:
I'm glad I did - I just can't get enough of this stuff!

Go check out more sky-oriented photography at Skywatch Friday - you won't be sorry! Have a great weekend, everyone!

Red Rubies in the Shuk

I happened to be lucky enough to find myself in the shuk this past week. By "the shuk" I mean Mahane Yehuda, Jerusalem's open market. The produce there is fresh and beautiful, and if I had time, I would have stood there photographing all day long. As it was, I didn't have a lot of time. Even so, I couldn't help but stop and grab this shot as I was walking by:
Unbelievable, right? And I don't even like tomatoes :)

Go check out more reddish photography at Mary's great meme, Ruby Tuesday. That's where I'm going! Happy Tuesday, everyone!

A plethora of shadows

Well, summer has really kicked in, and the sun has been shining. Which, of course, leads to nice shadowy photography, just right for Shadow Shot Sunday, that very fun meme hosted by Hey Harriet. Living seven flights up has its advantages - great views, great breezes, and more - but until now I hadn't realized that we get a different perspective on the shadows below us than others might. Check these out:

I very much like the tree shadows, but if you look closely, you can also find lots of other interesting shadows, too. Feel free to click on the photos, if you'd like an even closer look. I hope you enjoy these as much as I do!

Don't forget to go visit Shadow Shot Sunday, to see lots of cool shadows, posted from all over the world. Happy Sunday, all!

Skywatch - some nice clouds at last

The weather has been strange lately - we go between dust storms, fog, and scorching sun all in the same week! I did catch an interesting sunset a couple of days ago. So something good came of it all :)

Pretty, right?

Go check out more sky-oriented photography, at Skywatch Friday! Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

Kuvaa 12!! Back again...

Well, I messed up. It's been a busy couple of months, and in both April and May, I remembered this monthly meme on the 16th of the month. Yep, you guessed it - posting is allowed up until the 15th! But this month I'm back!

Just to refresh your memory, 12 Kuvaa is a meme in which photographers take a photo of their local scene, at the same time of day, once a month. It's tremendously fun! Do check out the other photographers' work - some of it is really spectacular, and changes significantly over the year. Mine a little less so, but it's still fun to post. Just to remind you, here are my previous photos (we started in September). The view is of the park across the street from our apartment:

February
March
April-May, taken but not posted :)

And finally, we have arrived at last! Here it comes (a good five days before the deadline, I'd like to point out)... June 2010!!
Yes, the blue skies have returned! The trees have filled back out! And I'm pretty sure that this is more or less what the next few months will look like. Well, I guess we'll have to wait and see!
Please go and check out more 12 Kuvaa photography - you won't regret it! See you next month!

A ruby red (well, pinkish) friend in our window!

My house is turning into a zoo of sorts. First a bunny, and now a new guest, who appeared yesterday on our windowsill:

She left at one point for a couple of minutes, and my daughter spotted two eggs under there! How exciting!
For more reddish photography, go check out Mary's blog, Work of the Poet. She hosts Ruby Tuesday, that super-fun meme, each and every week! Thanks, Mary! And Happy Tuesday, everyone!

Summer Stock - A new meme for me!

Robin, that talented photographer (and fellow Israeli) from Around the Island, has a fantastic meme that I'm pleased to be participating in today. It's called Summer Stock Sunday, and as you can guess, it's for posting summery photography. It started up today, after a long non-summer break, and I just happen to have an appropriate scene:

Yes, in my neighborhood, the sprinklers in our park are a sure sign of summer. Aren't these pretty? They look even nicer up close, so feel free to click on either photo, if you'd like to enlarge them.

And do go and check out more cool summer stock photos at Robin's blog. Happy Summer, everyone!

Another cloudy day

Man, I do miss wintry sunsets. Although the dust over the past few weeks has made for dramatic views. Not as colorful and sensational as their winter cousins, but dramatic nonetheless:

But I very much enjoy the long days and the short sleeves of summer :)

Go right now to see more sky-oriented photography, at Skywatch Friday! Have a great weekend, everyone!
