Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors! #44

Here we are, back again for our favorite weekly meme!
Once again, it's time for another Jewish holiday! I'll be off celebrating Sukkot tonight, so I'm posting this a little early. We're nearing the end of this holiday season, it's crazy but festive, and I'll be sorry to see it go. Anyway, here's the front door of our Sukka, the little hut that we built on our porch for the holiday. The sign says "welcome" in Hebrew:
We live on a very windy mountaintop, and so our sukka is made of wood, so as not to blow away! But this year we made an improvement, and added a big window on the northern wall, letting in lots of light. Here are some inside views:

It's decorated with all sorts of things that my kids have created over the past ten-or-so years. It's always a trip down memory lane to drag out the box of decorations and hang them up!
Anyway, there you have it - two whimsical windows and one delirious door!
Now it's your turn! Please post a photo of a window, door, or anything architectural, link here, and sign up in the widget below! We can't wait to see what you've found for us this week. Happy Sukkot, everyone!

Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors! #43

Here we are again, for a week of your favorite little meme!

Whoa, I'm a little bit dizzy from all these holidays. Last week was Rosh HaShana, now tomorrow night is Yom Kipur, and straight after that comes a week of Sukkot and Simchat Tora. Every year it comes, and every year the whirlwind takes me by surprise :)

Anyway, in honor of all these Jewish holidays, I thought I'd present you with some photos of a very simple building - the synagogue on the kibbutz where I work. It's a very modest, unassuming building. My bet is that they went with the "don't judge a book by it's cover" idea, valuing instead what's inside. Actually very appropriate for a synagogue, no?

Well, I wouldn't call it beautiful. But it does have some interesting lines! I like the inverted pyramids on the corners, myself.

Skywatch! A moonrise

Well, I haven't had a chance to post to Skywatch for a while, and I'm glad that I found a few free minutes to do it now. Here's a moonrise from a couple of months ago. I just love when I'm able to document things like this!
Nice, right? Feel free to click on the photo if you'd like a closer look!
And for more sky-oriented photographs, check out Skywatch Friday, right now! You'll be glad that you did. Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

WWDD #42 Shana Tova!

Good thing that Blogger lets me post ahead - I'm not actually here. I'm off celebrating Rosh HaShana, the Jewish new year, but I didn't want to abandon my favorite little meme, so I'm posting early and scheduling it to pop up on time. Here's hoping this works!
Yes, welcome back to Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors! We've been playing this game for 42 weeks already - amazing!
Here's another photo that I took in Jerusalem, not long ago. It seems like a regular enough building, right?
Nice, clean, respectable. Lovely! But if you zoom in on those windows, there's something funky going on...
Do you see what I'm saying? I wonder what they were trying to do here.

Anyway, now it's your turn! To participate in Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors! just post a photo of a window, door, or anything architectural, link to it here, and then sign up in the widget below. Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors! #41

Wow! Who would have believed that our sweet little meme is already in its 40's??
Time just flies when you're having fun!
Here's some more fun architecture that I found in downtown Jerusalem:
I really like this building! I couldn't place exactly what it was about it that made it stand out to me, but I think that it might be the terrace way up there, on the same level as the roof. There's something funky going on there...

Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors! #40

Welcome back to your favorite little architectural meme!
We are truly blessed to live at 960 meters above sea level. Our summers are far cooler, breezier, and less humid than those of our friends in Tel Aviv and anywhere along the coast, and we're very happy with it that way! That said, if we ever want to go to the beach, the closest one is about an hour's drive away. It's the one thing that's a bit annoying - how can we live in a coastal Mediterranean country, and not be near the beach? But then I open the window and breathe the cool sweet air, and realize that having a nice breeze 365 days a year far outweighs the close proximity of a beach...

Anyway, I didn't mean for this to be such a long introduction. The point is, when we do go to the beach, we generally like going to the one in Ashdod. It's close (only 55 minutes away), clean, not too packed, and has free parking and showers. What else could we need? Every time I drive there, the road seems to have changed a little bit, and I'm always comforted when at last we find this funky building - which means we've arrived at our destination at last. Get ready - it's an interesting one:
Doesn't it look like something out of an Aladdin movie? Or Disneyworld? And yet that's where we park - one minute behind this building is spacious, gorgeous blue sea. Well, during the daytime, anyway... Isn't it funny?
