Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors! #57

Welcome back, everyone, to your favorite little meme!
It's the last day of 2012 - wowee! That sure was fast... I still remember when 2000 seemed impossibly far away. Do you?
Anyway, I understand that there's a lot of snowing going on around the world, but in our neck of the woods, things mostly look like this, and I just wanted to share:
Isn't that a most welcoming door?

Just a speedy skywatch post...

I've been taking sky photos for weeks now, and never have a chance to post them! So here you go, quick while I have a minute:

Mind you, these are four separate days... I'm so addicted to clouds! Do feel free to click on any of these, if you'd like a better view!

Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors! #56

Welcome back to our little meme!
Here's a really cool set of windows that I found for you on my recent trip to Chicago! This house is being renovated, but apparently they're putting some kind of copper top on these two large, ground floor windows. I found the whole thing just fascinating!

I've definitely never seen anything like these before! I'm very curious to know whether the owners plan to let this copper go all-natural green, ala the Statue of Liberty, or to seal them with an enormous coat of clear nail polish to keep them shiny and bright :)

Macro Monday! From the fridge

Well, this is a little embarrassing. I chopped the top off of a vegetable a few weeks ago, and before tossing it out, decided that it was really interesting and photo worthy. But now, I'm not sure what it was! My hunch says daikon radish. Or was it perhaps the bottom of a kohlrabi?

One of those, I bet. I do still think that it's cool looking, though, whatever it is! Feel free to click on it, if you'd like an even closer view.

And for more close-up photography, check out Macro Monday, beautifully hosted at Lisa's Chaos. Have a great week, everyone!

Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors! #53

Here we are, ready for the latest installment of your favorite little meme - Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors!
This week we're back to Israeli architecture. I took a look around my small town and suddenly realized that I hadn't shared this one with you before:

Isn't it lovely? This is a synagogue not too far from my home. I really like it, I think it looks like a scroll!

Now it's your turn! I can't wait to see what you've found for us - have a wonderful week, everyone!

Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors! #52

Here we are, at the last WWDD of this year - wow! How exciting! Time sure does fly when we're having fun :)
Here's the last installment of my October 2010 photos - these ones are actually a little bit monumental, for me, at least. Although I grew up in Chicago, I had never been to the top of the Sears Tower, until this trip! I know, I know, it's now called the Willis Tower, but it's going to be a little while before I naturally call it that... anyway, here it is - my impressions of the tallest building in the US:

And here's the view from the top:

And here we are, back down at the bottom:

I think that's enough windows to cover the week- next week we'll be back to our regular Israeli architecture!

Ruby Tuesday–back at last!

Wow, it’s been a long time since I posted to Ruby Tuesday. I’ve missed it! And I realized that I never posted this year’s seasonal pomegranate photos, back from Rosh HaShana! Here you go, better late than never:

Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors! #51

Here we are, back again for that always-fun meme!
Well, I'm totally rejuvenated by your comments from last week! I personally have a great time with this meme, and will be happy to keep it going for as long as I can! I was just worried about you guys... but if you're happy, let's keep it up! I'm also looking into the idea of a thumbnail linky - I've been happy with the ridiculously easy to use services at Simply Linked, but I agree that thumbnails are fun, so if I can do it, I'm willing to give it a try! Anyway, thanks so much for your support, everyone! And if you want to encourage your friends to play along, that's fine too :)

On to this week's post! Here are some pictures from Chicago, the second half of that trip we made back in October of 2010. I can't believe I never shared these with you! I'll actually be back in Chicago for a short visit in a few weeks - it would be kind of absurd if I hadn't posted these before that :)
I remember having a particular fondness for these structures, as a young girl - I found them mesmerizing! It was fun for me to see them again:

 Here's some "classic" Chicago architecture:
But this is the kind of building that pops into my head when I think of actually living in Chicago:
That's all for now, folks!

Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors! #50

Wow! Here comes week number-five-oh of our little meme!
This leads me to all sorts of questions. What do you guys think? Should we keep this up? It's been almost a year, wow! Is there something you think we should do to make this different next year? We are indeed a wee meme - we generally get around 6-7 participants, and I think our highest week ever was 12. Does this bother you? Would you prefer a higher number? And if so, what can we do about it? This is the first meme that I've ever hosted, and I personally love finding interesting architecture each week. I'm not in it for the hits, I just like the personal weekly challenge. But I suppose it might be fun to have a larger audience, too. Please leave your ideas and opinions in the comments below - thanks!

And now, on to the windows and doors! I was going through some of my older photos, and discovered that there were some that I had from a trip back to the US that I never posted, from two years ago exactly, in October 2010. Man, are these ever the antithesis of what you usually see here in the greater Jerusalem area! So I figured it would be nice to share them with you. These ones are from Sharon, Massachusetts - an absolutely beautiful town. We were lucky enough to be there in Autumn, which was really ideal. First, here's the house where my mother in law grew up:
Here's a house that I actually did show you last time, but it's so lovely that I can't resist sharing it once again :)

And here are a few more views from nearby where we stayed that were just so dramatically different from what I usually see, I couldn't help grabbing my camera!

Oh, that was a nice trip! And it was good to come home, too :)

Now it's your turn! To play along with us here at Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors! just post a photo of a window, door, or anything architectural, link here, and sign up in the widget below. Thanks for coming by - and have a wonderful week!

Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors! #49

Welcome back to your favorite little meme!
Here's the front door of another house in the same neighborhood as the one I posted last week. Lovely, don't you think? Not very wheelchair friendly, though :(
I do like the looks of this, though - something about the formidable Jerusalem stone, contrasted with the light wood and flowers here, makes this very appealing to me.

And now it's your turn! To participate in Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors! just oost your photo of a window, door, or anything architectural, link here, and sign up in the widget. Thanks for playing along with us - have a great week!

Skywatch! Two lovely sunsets

About a week and a half ago, I glanced out the window as I was leaving work, and found this beautiful sight. This was taken through my car window:

Pretty, right? But then, to my surprise, the very next day, it looked like this:

I thought it was a really cool range of options, myself :)
