Winter sunrise

Winter is a comin', and here in Israel, that's our rainy season. All summer long is dry here, without a cloud in the sky. This makes it very convenient for planning outdoor events, but not so exciting on the sky views front - no clouds is generally pretty boring.

Anyway, I was up early yesterday, assembling a birthday cake for my daughter. Suddenly, I noticed the sun rising out the kitchen window! It was a fantastic surprise, and of course, wannabe photographer that I am, I dropped everything and went for the camera:

Different windows for Wednesday

Here's something a little more modern for Window Views this week. This is one of many skylight/ceilings in Malcha, the Jerusalem mall:

Shadow Shot Sunday

Here's a fantastic meme that I've wanted to participate in for a few weeks, already. It's called Shadow Shot Sunday, and it's a cool, artsy look into light and shadow. I don't (yet) have any terribly artsy photos, but looking back through my photos from the last few years, I found this photo, which I think probably qualifies nonetheless:

Those are the shadows of some of the buildings in my neighborhood onto the hillside below. I actually blogged about them once here, a long long time ago.

Please do go check out more shadowy shots here. Have a great day!

Belated Skywatch

Well, my blogger account was acting goofy on Friday, and so I wasn't able to post this when I wanted to. Better late than never, right?

Here's my entry for Skywatch - my son pointed out the cool sky as we were getting into the car a few mornings ago:

Another great meme!

Man, I can't get enough of these memes - can you tell? They lend organization to my chaos, and motivation to my shutter-finger. This one was previously called Window Views, but has recently changed to Window Views... and doors too! I think it's a fun way to spend a Wednesday. Here's mine:

I found this a while back in the German Colony neighborhood of Jerusalem. It seems to me to be a window that has rolled with quite a few punches, to say the least.

Feel free to click on the photo to enlarge it, as always. And do check out more window and door photos here!

It's Ruby Tuesday!

Remember those climbing things I told you about from our Jerusalem zoo? Here's my daughter playing on one of them - see if you can find her :)

Don't forget to check out more rubies here. Happy Ruby Tuesday, everyone!

Skywatch Sunset

Well, I think that this is my tenth Skywatch Friday post! Here's the sun setting yesterday afternoon, as seen in my neighborhood:

I'm always a fan of backlit, swirly clouds :) Feel free to click on the photo to enlarge it.

Yumm.

About a week ago, I needed to wait for a few hours for my car to get some minor repairs. While waiting, I found this delicious salad at Cafe Hillel in Jerusalem - it's got a few kinds of lettuce, avocado, and various seeds in a nice vinaigrette. I couldn't help but take a picture - it was just so pretty!

Mmm, I'm getting hungry just posting this. Maybe I'll go back for seconds!

12 Kuvaa #2

As you may recall, I found a cool meme last month, called 12 Kuvaa (12 Photos). Basically, you're meant to photograph a scene, and then take a photo in the same place at the same time of day one month later, and then two months later, and so on for a year. I thought it was a cool idea, and so I joined. My scene is of the park in front of my house. I took it today, at 16:30 (just like last month):

Just so you remember, here's last month's entry:

So you can see that we've changed the clock - winter is coming, and the sun now goes down earlier. But we still have plenty of leaves on the trees, and plenty of kids in the park!

We'll see what happens by next month! In the meantime, check out more 12 Kuvaa photos from around the world here!

Ruby Tuesday number nine for me!

Wow, time is flying! I'm up to my ninth ruby (and I haven't even posted every week).

Here are some flowers I found growing happily near the parking lot of my office, a few weeks ago:

As always, click on a photo to enlarge it. These are really velvety when seen up close!

Skywatch on a partially rainy day

So a few days ago, it started to rain. Not just any day, though - the day that I had arranged to take vacation with my kids and husband, to go do something outdoorsy and fun. Hmm, we wondered, watching the drops - what to do? We decided to go to the Herodion (see my previous post), since it never rains in the desert...

We got there, and of course, it was still raining! This actually worked out to our advantage - what would later be a packed tourist attraction was still relatively empty. And the skies were breathtaking! Clear blue mixed with bright white, with some severe rainclouds scattered here and there. Here's an example, taken as the rain was letting up:

I especially enjoy looking at the shadows of the clouds - check out how it's dark nearby, and sunny farther off in the distance...

As always, click on the photo to enlarge... and be sure to go here to see more skywatch photos.

Herodion

We went to the Herodion yesterday with the kids. It was so interesting, and offered a lot of great views! I'll post some of those later for Skywatch Friday, but first, here's a ceiling that I enjoyed. It seems in pretty good condition, considering it's about 2000 years old...

My first Mellow Yellow Monday Post

Well, here in Israel we've reached yet another holiday - Sukkot. Sukkot is a holiday with a lot of props - we build huts, and we buy all sorts of interesting plants. One of these is a fruit, called an Etrog, or citron, in English. Citrons come in many types - some are smooth, some are bumpy, some are large, some are small, and I've seen them in yellow, green, and even orange! One can find them for sale all over the country at this time of year, and I caught these on display this past Friday afternoon, while waiting for my husband and daughter to get a pizza:

Happy Sukkot, everyone!
