Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors! #85

Welcome back to your favorite little meme!
I'm just stopping by to quickly post this before bed - check out these cool balconies (and accompanying windows and doors) that I found while waiting at a red light in Jerusalem, a couple of weeks ago!
 and a closer shot:
I like these a lot - I always like things that started out identical, but ended up so very individualized...

Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors! #84

Welcome back to your favorite little meme!
About a week ago, I found myself at Binyan Clal, a big building in the center of Jerusalem. When I first came to Israel, in the early 1990's, this building was pretty much the main Jerusalem mall. Always bustling, full of cute little shops and even a movie theater, it was a great hangout.

Nowadays, since the opening of the Malcha mall about twenty years ago, Binyan Clal is awfully quiet. There are a lot of offices there, and some very small, sad shops, but that's about it. And still, walking through it on the way to my errand, I found myself suddenly nostalgic. If nothing else, this place has really interesting architecture! And so, naturally, I stopped a second to grab a couple of shots to share with you...

Yes, there are elevators too - it's not as inaccessible as it seems at first glance :)

Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors! #83

Here we are, back once again for your favorite little meme!
Today is June 30th, which in my town means Happy Last Day of Grammar School to you!
Last week, we had the pleasure of attending my daughter's end-of-the-year play. They took a great book, Me'ever Le'Pina (Around the Corner, in English), and adapted it into a fun show, full of color and fun. The main stage featured a lovely set of functional windows and a door, and I couldn't resist grabbing a photo to share with you all:

(As always, feel free to click on the photos, if you'd like a closer view.)
Congratulations to the sixth grade class - well done!

Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors! #81

Here we are once again, ready for your favorite little meme!
Here is the third and final batch of the windows and doors that I found in Tel Aviv, all those weeks ago (see part one and part two of three, if you're interested!).

We, the pedestrians and bicyclists, waiting at our respective crosswalks:
My destination (mm-mm!):

Did you catch the public water bowl for dogs, above on the right? How sweet! Tel Aviv seems to be the city that leaves no citizen behind...
Here's a closer shot of our little restaurant. It was delicious, by the way - highly recommended!

And a few shots walking back, after dinner:

All in all I had a great time! Tune back in next week for your regularly scheduled Jerusalem-area/Judean Hills photography :)

Gentle Reader - can you tell what makes this photo, taken last week, different from all other photos on this blog of mine?
If you answered, "Toby, we think you captured that image with your phone, instead of your camera" then you win the grand prize! Congratulations! I truly, truly never thought this day would come...

Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors! #80

Welcome back to your favorite little meme!
Well, I have a few more photos I'd like to post from my trip to Tel Aviv a few weeks back, but I found myself on an unplanned trip to Jerusalem this morning, and actually got a very close-up shot of a building that I've liked for quite some time. So let's take a one week TA break, and check out this Jerusalem action:
This building is called Sha'arei Ha'Ir, which literally means City Gates, and  it's located just down the street from the central bus station. I've always admired its gentle curve :)

Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors! #79

Here we are, back again for your favorite little meme!
Here's a little bit more from my Tel Aviv outing last week. What easily made the biggest impression on me were the bicycles - they had their own lanes, ala Amsterdam, and were available to rent all over the place:
The buildings were a fun combination of very old and very new. These photos were all taken on the same street:

But my very favorite were the intimate park benches - how sweet are those?
Awww...
Rock on, Tel Aviv!

Shadow Shot Sunday and Ruby Tuesday Combo!

I made a big pan of grilled vegetables this weekend. Not only was it delicious, it was beautiful, if I do say so myself! And so I couldn't resist taking a photo...

Lucky me, there's some lovely light playing over these veggies, so I'm taking the opportunity to post to Shadow Shot Sunday II, in addition to Ruby Tuesday II. Go check them both out, they're a lot of fun! Have a great week, everyone!

Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors! #78

Welcome back to your favorite little meme!
I went to Tel Aviv last week for dinner and had a great time - and I found lots of very non-Jerusalem stone covered buildings for you all to see! Here's the first in my collection:
Nice, right? And quite different from my usual pickings :)

Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors! #77

Welcome back to your favorite little meme!
I got temporarily lost in Jerusalem today - not a difficult task in a city where everything is white. Just before I figured out where I was, I came across this oh-so-intriguing building. When I pulled over to the side of the road to take a quick photo, I was thinking that I liked the random spacing of the windows - it's a cool, unexpected twist on the modern skyscrapers where everything looks the same, and there is no apparent difference between the different stories. But now, posting it here, I wonder if it's actually a message in Morse code? Does anyone out there know?

Maybe it says "stop reading this building?"

I thought I should get a closer shot of the windows, although there's not much detail to see, it's actually a little bit mesmerizing :)

Anyway, three cheers for getting lost and finding new buildings! Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors! #76

Here we are, back once more for your favorite little meme!
As you may recall, a few weeks ago was Yom HaAtsma'ut, Israel's Independence Day. Our entire country enjoyed a well-deserved vacation day, and my family decided to go and see the Israeli Air Force museum, near Be'er Sheva. It was a lot of fun! We got to see impressive airplanes:

Cute airplanes:

Really strange airplanes:
And more! If you haven't been to this museum, I highly recommend it - it was really interesting, and a lot of fun! And full of interesting windows and doors :)

Remember those windows and doors that we saw being built a few weeks ago? Well, things are developing from all sides, and they now have fancy sidewalks and a roof! This is so interesting...

 What a pretty view!
