Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors! #11

Well, this is the first week since starting this little meme that I'm forced to go and rummage around in my archives. It's been a busy week! Fortunately, I found a photo that I took just this summer at the Israel Museum, in Jerusalem. I'm glad I had a chance to look back, otherwise it might have slipped through the cracks!

I realize that this might not seem too exciting, but I find it very interesting to see how modern architects, building super modern architecture, manage to build sleek new buildings while remaining faithful to Jerusalem's local law to line all its buildings with Jerusalem Stone. This stone, that seems so white during the day, but takes on a warmer hue when the sun rises and sets, really lends an interesting tone to the city. When I first used to drive around here, I always managed to get lost, and thought everything looked the same :)

Welcome back to our Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors, that fun meme where you can post doors of windows, doors, or anything architectural! Please play along - just post your photo, link here, and then sign up with the handy dandy widget below. And then go check out the cool photos from all over the world! Isn't it interesting how we're all so different, and yet so very similar :)

Thanks so much for coming by - have a wonderful week, everyone!

I had wondered why the stone turned a rosy shade. And I can see why the city wants to capitalize on the beauty of the stone. The modern windows still look like they fit well in the building.

I love the hue of this stone - but I can certainly imagine how disorienting it might be to have everything the same. I like these windows, they look frosted and seem to complement the building.

I find the variety of architecture in Jerusalem inspiring, the occasional "block" like this act as a good way to compare and contrast. Also, in this case the external shape of the building is a foile to the many amazing artefacts it contains, you almost don't want its design to compete with the treasures within.

Archives are a great source for all memes - I do it all the time! The building is quite angular with sharp creases. Not as stylish as the color that changes with the available natural light. Thus whatever is stark in scope is actually soft in hue - now less imposing... A nice shot, you've used your archives well!

Beautiful building and it;s really good to have a peek of another place. This meme is a good way to dig into old photos and posting them..seems such a pity not to share some of the photos. Tks for hosting :)

I do love that Jerusalem stone! Interesting placement of the windows on this building.
