Welcome back to your favorite little architectural meme!
We are truly blessed to live at 960 meters above sea level. Our summers are far cooler, breezier, and less humid than those of our friends in Tel Aviv and anywhere along the coast, and we're very happy with it that way! That said, if we ever want to go to the beach, the closest one is about an hour's drive away. It's the one thing that's a bit annoying - how can we live in a coastal Mediterranean country, and not be near the beach? But then I open the window and breathe the cool sweet air, and realize that having a nice breeze 365 days a year far outweighs the close proximity of a beach...
Anyway, I didn't mean for this to be such a long introduction. The point is, when we do go to the beach, we generally like going to the one in Ashdod. It's close (only 55 minutes away), clean, not too packed, and has free parking and showers. What else could we need? Every time I drive there, the road seems to have changed a little bit, and I'm always comforted when at last we find this funky building - which means we've arrived at our destination at last. Get ready - it's an interesting one:
Doesn't it look like something out of an Aladdin movie? Or Disneyworld? And yet that's where we park - one minute behind this building is spacious, gorgeous blue sea. Well, during the daytime, anyway... Isn't it funny?

Skywatch - is that winter I see?
Well, as you may remember from my post a few weeks ago, summer in my neck of the woods is pretty much cloud-free. But just look at what we've been seeing this past week!

Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors! #39
I can't believe I'm late getting this out! It was just a wee bit busy around here, with the first day of school this morning! Wow! I'm really sorry to see the summer vacation go...
Anyway, here's a photo that I took a few years ago and posted to Robin's old meme, Summer Stock Sunday. Of all the photos I've taken, this one most reminds me of summertime, and so I thought it appropriate to post today, as we wave farewell to summer vacation:
And there are some nice windows in the background there, so we're all squared away :)

Macro Monday - a melon
I was inspired by the photo on Bing a few days ago. For those who didn't see, it looked like this:
Looks like country roads through some green pastures, right? Wrong - it's a close up of a melon!
Naturally, as soon as I woke up the next morning, I got out my trusty camera and attacked the melon I had in the fridge! Here's what I came up with:
And my personal favorite:
Okay, they're not as cool and close up as the one on Bing, but still, not bad, right?
For more close-up photography, check out Macro Monday, over at Lisa's Chaos. It's a beautiful meme, you'll be glad you made the trip! Happy Monday, everyone!

Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors! #36
Wow! 36 weeks of our favorite new little meme!
This isn't a great photo, I confess - I took it quickly, while sitting at a red light. Despite the mild blurriness, I just love the subject! Isn't this a sweet gate? It leads into a public park in Jerusalem. Quite welcoming, if I do say so myself!
And now it's your turn! To participate in Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors, all you need to do is post a photo of a window, door, or anything architectural, link here, and then sign up in the widget below. Sunrise, Sunset...
Can you tell the difference?
If you guessed sunrise, you're right! That's what I saw on my way to work yesterday morning. Then when I turned the corner, I got a better view:

Shadow Shot - better late than never?
I can't believe I never posted this! Almost two months ago, we witnessed an interesting astronomical event: Venus passed between Earth and the sun, creating a (relatively small) shadow on the sun! We were lucky enough to see the end of it, and even managed to get a photo:
See that spot toward the top? That's the shadow of Venus! Cool, right? Even all these months later :)

Welcome back to your favorite little meme!
Well, my photos from Yemin Moshe are all used up, and so I needed to start finding some more windows and doors from my everyday life. Lo and behold, this entrance showed up, as I was walking down the street in Jerusalem one day:
I'm not sure why, but I really like the composition of different elements here! I hope you do too...

Skywatch - so hot!
We've been having a heat wave over here - thankfully I live in the mountains, and so even when it's blazing hot, we usually still have a breeze. But there have been no clouds to speak of, and record-high temperatures. Does this evening's sunset express that as well as I think it does?
Hot!!
