Crazy Cool Windows in Jerusalem

I found myself in the Russian Compound neighborhood of Jerusalem earlier this year, just walking around. There is some really funky architecture there! Among others, I found this stone tower:

Feel free to click on the image to enlarge it, as always. Interesting that all of my window posts (so far) have been from Jerusalem! I'll have to look for something more local for next week...

Don't forget to check out other window and door photos of the week here!

I'm surprised it's in the Russian Compound as it doesn't look Slavic to me. But hey! I'm no expert in architecture of any kind. ;-)

I guess I need to rethink things a little. When I think of Jerusalem I don't think of castlelike architecture. :)
A great tower however.

Interesting windows in the tower! I would guess the narrow slits had something to do with the construction techniques of that era.

Thanks for coming, everyone! Your questions and comments got me curious, so I went and looked a little more in depth at the wikipedia article that I linked to in the beginning of the post. Turns out that my tower even features in the article! It was completed in 1890.
I agree, castles aren't the norm for Jerusalem. But that's part of the charm of the city - so many people have been coming there for so many years, and so you end up with a taste of lots and lots of different cultures.

That is a great photo. I, too, would not have thought of castle towers in Jerusalem...I have learned something and thank you!

Neat tower. I wonder if it holds the staircase?
I clicked on your link (which was most interesting, btw, thanks) - this building only had 25 rooms?!! Must have been some well connected aristocrats living there!

I love the detail in that turret. If you want to wander down my road I’m home.

I love this - seeing windows from around the world.
Its not the type of building I would have imagined in Jerusalem. But why not?
