Welcome back to your favorite little meme!
Happy holidays to all who are celebrating! I'm here to give you your weekly dose of Israeli architecture :)

Here are a few of the windows and doors (plus a surprise cat, roaming down the cobblestone!) that my husband and I found, while walking around the old section of Rosh Pina, about 15 minutes from Tsfat. As always, feel free to click on any of the photos, if you'd like a closer view:

It was really a perfect day, and so many windows and doors, to boot :)

Sunrise, sunset...

(Don't forget - you're invited to click on any and all of the photos, if you'd like a closer view!)

Yesterday morning, at work, I suddenly noticed the sun rising out my window. I couldn't see much, but it looked like it was probably a good show:
So I went outside to get a clearer view:
About half an hour later, my youngest daughter called. She was walking to her school bus, and was calling to tell me to go outside and check out the beautiful sunrise! It's good to have spies in the right places :) and she was right! Here's how things had progressed:
But the grande finale was one step away. Later that afternoon, back at home, we were blessed with a perfectly matched sunset :)
Not a bad day :)

Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors! #108

Welcome back to your favorite little meme!
Well, it was a crazy, snowy week, but I'd like to get back to the pretty windows and doors that I found up north, almost a month ago.

Here's another window in our little hotel in Tsfat - this one is in the hallway:
And here are the buildings right across the street:
I'm not sure, something in that last one is making me nervous... is it just me?

Skywatch - sunsets again :)

(As a preface - please feel free to click on any of the photos, if you'd like a closer view!)

Okay, this is actually a three camera post :)

This past Tuesday afternoon, I was walking near my house, when I glanced to the left and noticed an amazing sunset. Unusually, I didn't have my camera handy, but I had to try to capture it, so I used - sigh - my phone :)
I got home, and things were really getting interesting. It looked like the sky was on fire! So I grabbed my point-and-shoot camera, and took a shot:
That's when my ever-helpful husband pointed out that there was a great reflection of the sunset's colors in the flooded valley below our house. My point-and-shoot doesn't zoom all that well, so I reached for my beloved Canon Rebel, which has a lovely zoom! First I tried using it to get the sky itself, but with the lens I was using, I was already pretty zoomed :) Still, it brought out some interesting detail:
And finally, the reflection in our simultaneously flooded and snowy fields. This is not a very common view for us, here in Israel!
Whew, I think that's about it :)

Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors! #107

Welcome back to your favorite little meme!
As you may or may not know, here in Israel we're recovering from a crazy snowstorm. Where I live, we got over a foot and a half of snow, which hasn't happened for decades! It began Wednesday night, and the roads have been closed ever since, believe it or not. Here's a shot from a brief break, on Thursday. I really liked the low clouds here, that match the piles of snow! As always, feel free to click on the photos, if you'd like a closer view:

It kept on snowing pretty much nonstop, all the way through until Saturday afternoon! We lost power and heat for a lot of it, but thankfully have enough hats, socks and blankets that we made do. I think that there are people elsewhere who still don't have stable power - scary! And at this point, things have iced over so badly that the kids' schools are cancelled tomorrow as well! Wow.

Still, there's no getting past the beauty or intensity of this all. I went for a walk with my husband last night to go walk his father's dog, and here are some photos that I took on the way, just so you all might believe :)
Here you can see that the new shade thing above our park has completely collapsed :(

Those are the stairs that we opted not to take :)

Here if you look closely you can see some brave kids sledding down this hill :)

Yikes, right?

Back home - one of those cars is mine!!

Here's a closeup of the beautiful snow on our car. It looks soft and playful, but in fact, it's completely iced over! Looks can be deceiving :)

Well, there are some windows and doors there, and so I'm cheating a bit and using these for my Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors! post this week. Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors! #106

Here we are, back again for your favorite little meme!
Well, Chanuka is over, and now we can get back to looking at the interesting architecture that I found while vacationing up north, a few weeks ago. Here's the window (and fascinating ceiling!) that we found at ArtCafe, the restaurant we went to in Tsfat:
Nice, right? We came in to a completely empty restaurant, which was a bit weird, but business picked up shortly after :)

Skywatch - winter and her lovely clouds

Hey there everyone! Today we got our first serious rains of the season - yay! I was out driving around 4:30 in the afternoon as things were clearing up a bit, and found this very strange layering of very different clouds. I pulled over to the side of the road, and tried to get a sampling to share with you all:

Weird, right?

Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors! #105

Welcome back to your favorite little meme!
So I know I told you that I was going to show you interesting windows that I found while on vacation up north a couple of weeks ago, but I need to take a fast break because - it's Chanuka! Here in Israel there are candles lit wherever you look. I walked around last night finding some brightly lit windows to share with you. As always, feel free to click on any of the photos, if you'd like a closer view:

And my favorite:

Happy Chanuka, everyone!

Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors! #104

Welcome back to your favorite little meme!
My husband and I went up North this past week for a day and a half, to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. Yes, you read that correctly, the magic number is twenty! Wow, that took a little getting used to, it certainly doesn't feel to me like it's been twenty years! But it's been a lot of fun, and is certainly worth celebrating.

Anyway, Gentle Reader, I came back from this trip with a load of windows and doors, so you're in for a fun ride! This week we'll start at the very beginning - our hotel room in Tsfat. I have a hunch that this boutique hotel was once an apartment building, and that the "suites" were once small apartments. Ours was certainly big enough to be an apartment, with a kitchenette, living area, giant bedroom (perhaps once two?) and a lovely balcony. And so, with no further ado, here is our lovely balcony door :)
Isn't that so pretty? As always, feel free to click on the photo, if you'd like a closer view.

Skywatch - Agamon HaHula

Today, on an anniversary trip up North, my husband and I came across this lovely sky:
We rented bikes around Agamon HaHula, a bird watching nature reserve, admiring the thousands of migrating birds - it was amazing!

Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors! #103

Welcome to the latest installment of your favorite little meme!
This week I've found an interesting piece of architecture in Jerusalem, and for a change of pace, I even know its name: Beit Shmuel. Alas, I'm not sure how to describe the place - It's a theater (I've seen shows there), it's a reception hall (I've been to a wedding there), I know that there are art classes that one can take there, and according to the website, it's also a boutique hotel! So perhaps it could be called a cultural center? Hmm.

Well, whatever her title, here she is, in some of her glory:
(As always, feel free to click on the photo, if you'd like a closer view of the glory.)

Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors! #102

Here we are, back for your favorite little meme!
Today I present you with some teeny tiny architecture. There's a new pet shop in our little town, and among other small creatures, they sell birds. I love pets, but there's something about seeing birds in cages that just makes me sad - to me, the whole point of birds is that they can fly, free on the breeze, and seeing them caged up just doesn't seem right. There were a few cages of parakeets and the like, but this one little songbird really stood out to me as beautiful. What unique coloring! I've never seen anything like it. And I thought that her house was actually kind of cute - with a decorated "door," and a little overhang on the rooftop.

Still, if I bought her, I'd probably just let her go fly around free... so I guess it's a good thing that I walked away before I had much time to think about it :)
