I caught this coming out of a fun charity event a few nights ago.


When I think of my favorite colors, orange never pops to mind - I'm more the periwinkle type. But in a sunset, orange seems so majestic!

Ruby Tuesday 2

Yes, I'm taking a three minute break here at work to post this - I almost forgot about Ruby Tuesday! This is my Christmas Cactus in bloom, taken this past January; I think it looks kind of like a bird in flight, no?

Our suddenly flowering tree

Here's a tree in front of our house that was planted just two years ago. A few weeks ago I came outside and noticed that it was growing the fluffiest little flowers that I've ever seen:

So, the reason we were at the Botanical Gardens in Jerusalem last week was to see their new butterfly exhibit. It was a lot of fun, and really interesting! And I managed to catch this, among others:

Ruby Tuesday

I don't yet have the absolute hang of photoblogging - but I understand that there's a concept of Ruby Tuesday - as seen at Ilana-Davita: On Tuesdays, just post any photo you like (it must be one of your own) that contains the color RED and then link to this blog.

So, this isn't quite as subtle as the other entries that I see, but it IS just an hour shy of Tuesday, and this IS in my pile of things to post anyway...

Anyway, here's a moonrise shot that I got a few weeks ago. This is the clearest of my three tries - I tried to hold my camera steady by holding it on a railing...

Actually, a friend of mine recently discovered this camera umbrella, which would have solved the drops problem. Maybe when I'm a photographer I'll get one of those...

A Sunny Cloudy Day

Here's another shot of our pretty Western view - this time with some funky clouds that look, in my opinion, painted on:

A lovely little flower

Here's a relatively new plant of mine at work - a little African Violet that a coworker grew and brought me as a gift. It flowered soon after arriving on my desk, and I've recently moved it into a much needed larger pot. Here's a photo of its first flower, taken May fourth of this year:

Addicted to sunsets

Okay, it's true - you got me. I'm addicted to sunsets. It's a pretty hassle-free addiction, what with living on a hilltop, and having our prettiest view in the West.

Anyway, since moving here, I must have taken hundreds of sunset photos. They of course don't ever capture the actual grandeur of what we get to witness in person, but sometimes I do manage to catch a nice piece. Here's a relaxing one, for starters:

Day two

Okay, I don't know if I'll be able to post here every day, but I've still got the adrenaline of starting this up - so here we go.

This is a photo of a cactus that was sitting innocently on my windowsill, and one day began to flower. I took pictures from all different angles almost daily - trying to capture and keep up with its progress. Here is one of the pictures of the first flower to open:

Okay, here we go

I remember when taking photos was complicated - you could only take as many as your film allowed, and so you had to carefully weigh whether your subject and conditions were worth the risk. And then you had to be careful not to accidentally ruin the film in any number of ways. And then developing them was expensive. And only then, when they were successfully in your hands, perhaps months later, did you realize that your subject had blinked, and you should have tried once more.

Now, with digital cameras, it all seems too easy - you can take as many photos as you like, whenever, and you can tell immediately if the shot worked or not. The fact is, I've never studied photography, and I have but a digital (albeit lovely) camera to work with - no classy lenses, no tripod, nothing. But I live in a beautiful country, and find myself taking pictures constantly. And so, despite my ignorance, I think that the subject of some of these photos really stands out.

I've taken quite a few over the past years, and I'll post them here as often as I can. To get us started, though, here's one from the beach, taken just this past Thursday afternoon. Enjoy!
