Ruby Tuesday - Geraniums!

Every week, around Monday, I start getting a little bit nervous. There just aren't that many red things that I bump into on a daily basis, and yet I always enjoy participating in Mary's cool meme, Ruby Tuesday. Often I find something just in time, but you never know...
Anyway, here's what was greeting me outside my apartment building today, when I came back from work. Whew :)

One more week, check!

Skywatch Friday - A Dusty Sun

Today the weather was bizarre - dusty and yellow. Around lunchtime, it rained briefly, but not enough to wash the dust away. And so, when shopping in the afternoon, I found this looking down at me from way up in the sky:
Get it? It's the SUN!
That's cool, I know, but there's a postscript: it exactly matches tonight's moon :)

A Monstrous Ruby

Driving through Jerusalem a couple of days ago, I suddenly realized that this was something most of us don't get to see every day. And, as I've begun to categorize things in my head, a great opportunity for Ruby Tuesday!

This is a park called HaMifletset, or The Monster. Kids slide there all the time - as a matter of fact, the slide was packed with sliders until just a second before I caught this shot. Really, I promise!

My ever-happy succulents

Remember that cabbagey cactus that started exploding on my balcony? Well, two of its friends in the pot next door got into the action too. Here's the play by play:

I especially like how that one is turning toward the sun!

Funky, right? I'm really enjoying this whole horticultural adventure:)

The Cheesecake Edition

Sorry that I haven't posted much lately. This week was Shavuot, the holiday where we Jews celebrate receiving the Torah. It's funny, until I started blogging I didn't realize just how many holidays we have :) Anyway, a happy custom of Shavuot is to eat dairy, and in my book, that means cheesecake!

I make my mom's recipe, which is hand's-down the best cheesecake ever. I haven't ever found a slice that I enjoyed more! Generally, I like my cheesecake untainted, with no toppings. I feel that if it's good, it shouldn't need any extra stuff to get in the way. But this year I got a bit carried away and made four cakes, so I decided to experiment a little and add some toppings. Hence, we had one strawberry, one milk chocolate, one dulce de leche and of course, one plain:

Just look at those waves of sweet cheese! Ah, I love this holiday...

Have a great week, everyone!

Ruby Tuesday - a new bike!

My son just got an early birthday present - a fancy new bike! He rode it home from the shop, and I quietly drove behind...

Cookie Shadows

I made two batches of gingersnaps yesterday. Yum! As I was rolling them and laying them in nice rows on the pan, I suddenly found them to be very picturesque. And good candidates for Shadow Shot Sunday, that cool-as-anything meme that I love! What do you think?

And the final product:

I really like the texture! And, of course, the taste :)

There's a cool moon on the rise

Two weeks ago, I was driving home from grocery shopping, when I found myself faced with this at a red light. The street scene isn't too exciting, I know, but I was pretty pleased with myself for catching this moon before it was time to move forward:

It looks more impressive close up, so please do click on the photo to get a better view.

A window for Wednesday

It's been too long since I've had a chance to post to that cool-as-anything meme, Window Views... and Doors, Too! Here's a cute little window that I found not far from my house, just last week:
I really like it!
Go check out more window views right now, at Mary's blog. Happy Wednesday, everyone!

Ruby Tuesday - pass the salad

I recently finished reading one of Michael Pollan's books: In Defense of Food. If you haven't yet read it, I highly recommend doing so! It's not long, makes a lot of sense, and has caused me to eat a lot more salad :)

Here, help yourself:

Mmmm, delicious.

Shadow Shot - A guest post

Thanks, Shlomo, for finding this cool shadow and letting me post it! It's the shadow of the logo of the buildings where he works, the Azrieli Center in Tel Aviv, as seen on the ground outside.

That's an awfully clear shadow, and much more modern than my usual hillbilly picks!

Skywatch Friday - clouds in May!

Today's Flowers and Macro Monday, all in one

For the Today's Flowers and Macro Monday memes, I present the last of my flowering succulents. Well, probably my last - I guess we'll have to see :)

The cool thing about this plant is that, like my other succulents, these multiply like crazy. This particular pot was full of dirt on the floor of my balcony. At one point a few years ago I realized that a little piece of a succulent on the windowsill had fallen into the pot, and completely taken over. I almost never water it - it really doesn't need me. And yet it thrives, and even produces these starbursts in the Spring. My kind of plant!
